Insufficient Coolant Temperature for Stable Operation

Powertrain · Alimentación de combustible y aire

Puedes seguir conduciendo con precaución

Descripción

This code indicates that the engine coolant temperature is not reaching a stable operating temperature. The car's computer needs a consistent temperature to run efficiently and prevent damage.

Causas comunes

  • Thermostat stuck open
  • Low engine coolant level
  • Faulty engine coolant temperature sensor
  • Air in the cooling system
  • Faulty radiator fan operation

Síntomas

  • Check Engine Light is on
  • Poor fuel economy
  • Engine may run cooler than normal
  • Heater may not blow hot air

Pasos de reparación

  1. 1 Check engine coolant level and top off if low, using the manufacturer-recommended coolant type.
  2. 2 Inspect the cooling system for visible leaks at hoses, radiator, water pump, and reservoir that could cause low coolant.
  3. 3 Bleed the cooling system to remove any trapped air pockets that may prevent proper coolant circulation.
  4. 4 Check the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor connector for corrosion, damage, or loose connections and clean or secure as needed.
  5. 5 Test the engine coolant temperature sensor with a multimeter to verify it reads within specification; replace if faulty.
  6. 6 Inspect the radiator fan operation to ensure it is not running constantly or stuck on, which can prevent the engine from reaching operating temperature.
  7. 7 Replace the thermostat if the engine consistently fails to reach normal operating temperature, as a stuck-open thermostat is the most common cause of this code.
  8. 8 If the issue persists after thermostat replacement, have the cooling system pressure tested by a professional to identify hidden leaks or internal engine issues.
