Engine Coolant Temperature / Engine Oil Temperature Correlation
Puedes seguir conduciendo con precaución
Descripción
This code means the engine's computer has detected a mismatch between the engine coolant temperature and the engine oil temperature readings. These two temperatures should generally be related, and a significant difference suggests a sensor issue.
Causas comunes
- Faulty engine coolant temperature sensor
- Faulty engine oil temperature sensor
- Wiring issue to either sensor
- Thermostat stuck open or closed
- Low coolant level
- Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)
Síntomas
- Check Engine Light is on
- Poor fuel economy
- Engine may run too cool or too hot
- Difficulty starting the engine
Pasos de reparación
- 1 Check the engine coolant level and top off if low, as insufficient coolant can cause incorrect temperature readings.
- 2 Inspect the wiring and connectors at the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor for damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
- 3 Inspect the wiring and connectors at the engine oil temperature (EOT) sensor for damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
- 4 Check the thermostat operation by monitoring coolant temperature with a scan tool during warm-up — it should reach operating temperature (190–220°F) within a few minutes of driving.
- 5 Replace the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor if its readings do not match actual coolant temperature measured with an infrared thermometer.
- 6 Replace the engine oil temperature (EOT) sensor if its readings do not correlate with the ECT sensor readings at full operating temperature.
- 7 Replace the thermostat if the engine is running too cool or too hot, indicating it is stuck open or closed.
- 8 If all sensors, wiring, and thermostat check out, have the Engine Control Module (ECM) inspected and reprogrammed or replaced by a professional.
