Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit
Puedes seguir conduciendo con precaución
Descripción
This code means there's a problem with the circuit that tells your car's computer how hot the engine coolant is. The computer needs this information to manage fuel, ignition timing, and cooling fan operation.
Causas comunes
- Faulty engine coolant temperature sensor
- Wiring issue in the coolant temperature sensor circuit
- Problem with the engine control module (ECM)
- Low engine coolant level
- Stuck thermostat
Síntomas
- Check Engine Light is on
- Poor fuel economy
- Engine overheating or running too cool
- Rough idle
Pasos de reparación
- 1 Check engine coolant level and top off if low, as insufficient coolant can cause incorrect temperature readings.
- 2 Inspect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor connector for corrosion, loose pins, or damage, and clean or reseat the connection.
- 3 Inspect the wiring harness between the ECT sensor and the ECM for frayed, broken, or shorted wires, and repair as needed.
- 4 Test the engine coolant temperature sensor with a multimeter to verify its resistance changes properly with temperature; replace the sensor if readings are out of specification.
- 5 Inspect and test the thermostat to ensure it opens and closes at the correct temperature; replace if stuck open or closed.
- 6 If all sensor and wiring checks pass, have the engine control module (ECM) diagnosed by a professional for internal faults and replace if necessary.
