Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Range/Performance
Puedes seguir conduciendo con precaución
Descripción
This code indicates that the engine coolant temperature sensor is sending a signal that doesn't make sense for the current operating conditions. The computer expects the temperature to change gradually, but it's seeing erratic or unexpected readings.
Causas comunes
- Faulty engine coolant temperature sensor
- Air pocket in the cooling system
- Thermostat stuck open or closed
- Wiring issue in the coolant temperature sensor circuit
- Problem with the engine control module (ECM)
Síntomas
- Check Engine Light is on
- Inaccurate temperature gauge reading
- Poor engine performance
- Increased fuel consumption
Pasos de reparación
- 1 Check for air pockets in the cooling system by inspecting the coolant level and bleeding the system if necessary.
- 2 Inspect the wiring and connector at the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor for corrosion, damage, or loose connections.
- 3 Test the engine coolant temperature sensor with a multimeter to verify its resistance matches manufacturer specifications at various temperatures.
- 4 Check the thermostat operation by monitoring engine warm-up behavior — if the engine takes too long to reach operating temperature or overheats, the thermostat may be stuck open or closed.
- 5 Replace the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor if testing shows it is out of range or erratic.
- 6 Replace the thermostat if it is stuck open or closed and not regulating coolant flow properly.
- 7 Repair or replace any damaged wiring or connectors in the ECT sensor circuit.
- 8 Have the engine control module (ECM) inspected and tested by a professional if all other components check out normal.
