Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit High
No conducir — requiere atención inmediata
Descripción
This code indicates that the engine coolant temperature sensor is reporting a temperature that is too high. The sensor is essentially telling the computer the engine is overheating, even if it's not.
Causas comunes
- Faulty engine coolant temperature sensor
- Wiring issue in the coolant temperature sensor circuit (short to voltage)
- Problem with the engine control module (ECM)
- Overheating engine
Síntomas
- Check Engine Light is on
- Engine may go into 'limp mode' (reduced power)
- Cooling fans may run constantly
- Poor engine performance
- Inaccurate temperature gauge reading
Pasos de reparación
- 1 Check the engine coolant level and ensure the cooling system is not actually overheating before proceeding with sensor diagnostics.
- 2 Inspect the electrical connector at the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor for corrosion, damage, or loose pins, and clean or reseat as needed.
- 3 Check the wiring harness between the ECT sensor and the ECM for damaged, chafed, or shorted wires, especially where the harness contacts the engine or frame.
- 4 Test the ECT sensor resistance with a multimeter — it should change smoothly with temperature (typically 2,000–3,000 ohms at cold and 200–300 ohms at operating temperature); replace the sensor if readings are out of spec.
- 5 Replace the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor if it is found to be faulty or giving erratic readings.
- 6 Repair or replace any damaged wiring or connectors in the ECT sensor circuit if a short to voltage is identified.
- 7 Have the engine control module (ECM) inspected and tested by a professional if the sensor and wiring are confirmed good but the code persists.
