Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Intermittent
Puedes seguir conduciendo con precaución
Descripción
This code means the engine coolant temperature sensor is giving inconsistent readings over time. The temperature is jumping around erratically, which confuses the engine computer.
Causas comunes
- Faulty engine coolant temperature sensor
- Wiring issue in the coolant temperature sensor circuit (loose connection or intermittent fault)
- Problem with the engine control module (ECM)
- Air pocket in the cooling system
Síntomas
- Check Engine Light is on
- Temperature gauge fluctuates wildly
- Poor engine performance
- Intermittent stalling
Pasos de reparación
- 1 Inspect the wiring and connector at the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor for loose, corroded, or damaged connections and repair as needed.
- 2 Check the cooling system for air pockets by bleeding the system according to your vehicle's service manual procedure.
- 3 Wiggle-test the ECT sensor connector and wiring harness while monitoring live data to identify any intermittent faults.
- 4 Check the ECT sensor readings using an OBD-II scanner with live data — values should change smoothly with engine temperature and not spike or drop erratically.
- 5 Replace the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor if readings are erratic or out of range.
- 6 Inspect the wiring harness between the ECT sensor and the ECM for chafing, breaks, or short circuits, and repair or replace damaged sections.
- 7 Have the engine control module (ECM) tested and reprogrammed or replaced if all other components test normal and the fault persists.
